White Hart
Report by Dave Arnold

Persons Present : P.T. - Andrew (M), Paul (C), Stuart (M).
I.S.P. - Jim (S), Ian (S), Jenny (S), Dave (H).
W.H.M. - Jules, Dan.

(M)=Medium, (C)=Camera Work, (S)=Sensitive, (H)=Historian.
W.H.M.=White Hart Management.

External Weather Conditions At 23:15;

Partial Cloud Cover.
Damp Atmosphere.
Moon Phase - First Quarter.
External Temperature : 5.6 Degrees C.

First Vigil - Upper Function Room.

Start Time : 00:25 Finish Time : 01:15

Ambient Temp. : 16.9 Degrees C.

(** Despite the value of the ambient temperature, it was noted by all present that the Upper Function Room was unusually cold, likened to that of a bitterly cold winter’s day. No exhalation vapours were seen however. **)

STUART - Felt that illegal boxing matches took place in the room. The cheering crowds watching the bouts were drinkers from the downstairs bar areas.
STUART - Sees a very white-faced old woman looking out at us from the large mirror.

(** At this point, Jim’s red-gelled torch dimmed suddenly and then totally died out. The battery, fully-charged beforehand was now totally drained. **)

ANDREW (In a trance) - He is frustrated, trapped even. “Get me out !” he cries. Called “George” and is 17/18 years of age. Other spirits are pulling him back.

(** At this point, some members of the team (seated) felt their arms were being pushed into the divination table. **)

ANDREW (Out of trance) - He felt during his trance that all seated at the divination table were within a pentagram. The old lady in the mirror has a connection with this.

STUART - Felt that a secret and very rough society operated here (the room and building) circa. 1868.

(** Whilst talking about this society, Ian’s digital camcorder lost power. His battery was found to be totally drained. Shortly before the unit failed, the system indicated that there was 45 minutes remaining before recharging was required. **)

STUART - Sees a man dressed in a long green velvet coat with a brown collar and a green jewelled stone clasp upon his upper chest. He keeps looking at his watch. He is in
the watch-making profession. He keeps showing an image of Robert Louis Stevenson or some influential figure like him.

STUART - Sees an image of feet “jigging” around as if suspended from one of the central ceiling beams in the room. It appears to be a hanging conducted by 5-6 other people.
The victim is being pulled back bodily whilst in the noose by these people. Not just a hanging but a brutal form of torture.

STUART - Sees livestock stable buildings outside The White Hart Inn (where the current car park is situated) and lots of cottages dotted down London road, heading east
towards Old Basing.

GLASS DIVINATION.

(** Initially, two spirit energies contacted the divination group through the glass. They and their information were quickly dismissed due to inconsistencies and the acquisition of further information, see below. **)

STUART - Three women present in the room. They all look young but passed over naturally when they were elderly. They mislead us by pretending to be the initial two spirit energies contacted through the glass.

He sees tarot cards arranged around the edge of the table with an Ouija board set in the middle. The three women dabbled in the black arts and tricked others into doing So. The women are very spiritually powerful in a negative way.

Evidence of the black arts is prevalent not only in this room but throughout the building. The mirror that we are all in awe and slightly fearful of is not the focal point of the troubles but merely an uncomfortable diversion.

ANDREW - Feels that there may very well be satanic symbols drawn/etched somewhere in the building.

The negativity in the building due to the improper practice of the black arts is responsible for the high occurrences of verbal conflict and ill-health in the building over the years.

(** Jules and Dan have found living in the building a strain. They have found themselves arguing more often since being there and have also felt very drained physically and mentally for no obvious reason. **)

Second Vigil - Private First Floor Kitchen Area.

Start Time : 02:11 Finish Time : 02:25

Ambient Temp. : 17.2 Degrees C.

ANDREW - It is the early 1600’s. “George” (see First Vigil, above) is tied to a cross mechanism and with the aid of a number of horses, is slowly pulled apart limb from limb. Hooded figures cut him with implements to aid tearing. The head of the group is dressed in a red hooded robe, all other disciples are dressed in white robes. This happened on or very near to The White Hart Inn site. His dead body was fully dismembered and possibly fed to some pigs. His crime was in stealing a horse from nearby Hackwood House which belonged to Lord Hackwood. Lord Hackwood belonged to this sect of robed figures.

(** Both Andrew and Stuart felt physically sick at the imagery this tale conjured up and had to stop several times to compose themselves. **)
(** Post research : This form of torture was known as “Quartering” and is medieval in origin. The victim’s remains were usually burnt and then buried. In my opinion, the sect had specifically chosen this form of torture as their own particularly brutal “calling card” that would promote loyalty through fear within their ranks. **)

STUART - Felt there is a connection with Portsmouth. A maritime connection with old style shipping vessels.

(** Initial research : Basingstoke does indeed have a maritime connection through a well-liked and respected individual called Sir James Lancaster (1555-1618) who established the East India Trading Route and was made “General of the Fleet” in 1599. **)

Public Bar Area Walkabout.

Start Time : 02:30 Finish Time : 03:00

Ambient Temp. : 23.7 Degrees C.- Front Bar Area.

Front Bar Area.

STUART - Picks up on a very angry male spirit with a furious rage.

(** Stuart is physically shaking and visibly worked-up with this rage. **)

A violent incident happened in this area not long ago (within the last four years) involving this angry male and one other. The angry male repeatedly banged his victim’s head against the bar counter, having glassed him beforehand. The victim did not die though.

(** As Jim knows the Inn and its staff very well, when asked to confirm knowledge of this incident, he could not. I (Dave) suggested that maybe it had occurred after closing time and would therefore not be public knowledge - although it would have been hard to conceal as there is a police station directly opposite the Inn which has been there longer than four years. **)

STUART - The watch-maker from the earlier Upper Function Room vigil is present with us as are many, many other people from different time periods. They are all moving about in this area amongst us.

The three women (also from the same earlier vigil) are present and are heckling Stuart. A really nasty situation is evolving where the women appear to be hurling “mud” at him.

(** It was at this point Stuart stopped the walkabout. His reason being that the “mud” was really a spiritual poison that could have a long-term effect of ill-health to those present. He admitted that he was worried about the high-level of negative activity in the building and in turn, despite having Andrew present, couldn’t be sure of spiritually
protecting the rest of the team from it. **)

Pool Table Area Walkabout.

STUART - Over 50 people are present here at the moment. This area seems like it should be outside. The floor level was once lower here.

A highwayman is present. He has a nice temperament, but you wouldn’t want to cross him. He is wearing a long leather coat with a high collar and a tricorn hat. He has a long, chiselled chin with a scarred face (pock, scar or acne-ridden).

(** At this point, we all heard a loud “thud” on the wall behind Stuart. **)

STUART - There is a pet cemetery beneath us - a Labrador is with us. Old headstones are lain down to form a pathway. There are underground tunnels here in which
soldiers could escape.

(** Stuart felt very hot in this area. Paul felt suddenly quite ill at this point and had to leave the room, coughing as he went. **)

STUART - Felt the spirits have caused damage to modern day furniture here.

The three women (see earlier vigils) are indeed practicing witches, one elderly and two young. Names associated with these women are Elizabeth and Susanna Magnae. They are related, a mother with two daughters. Their loss of a little baby girl caused them to turn to the black arts. They are looking for forgiveness, the earlier poison throwing was a defensive gesture as they are frightened of us being here. Want to join their little girl in heaven.

STUART - The watch-maker is here with us. “Time stands still for no man !” he says. He can come and go whilst the three women can’t - this he finds funny.

There is a connection between Basingstoke and New York. The connection is with the shipping vessel “R.M.S. Titanic”. Twelve of the ship’s construction crew are here and who first passed through here to join her at Southampton docks.

(** Post research : This is entirely possible as the London road passes through Basingstoke on its way to Winchester and Southampton. **)

STUART - Highwayman Jack Ellis is here. He used the premises for serious business, not as friendly here if you were to meet him.

The White Hart Inn dates back to circa. 1607.

A Maypole type construction can be seen which is both very tall and brightly coloured and was once situated very near to this area.

(** Initial research : In 1449, Basingstoke was granted the right to hold an annual fair lasting a few days at a time. This event could quite possibly have included such a garish construction. **)

Third Vigil - Front Bar Area.

Start Time : 03:15 Finish Time : 04:00

Ambient Temp. : 20.8 Degrees C.

Persons Present : Andrew (M), Jim (S), Dave (H),
Jules & Dan (W.H.M.).

PLANCHETTE RESPONSE.

ANDREW - First spirit is a male, under 20 years of age. His name is “George” (see earlier vigils). He used to drink in this establishment. He was killed as described in the 1600’s and his remains are here in this building, in the Upper Function Room’s chimney walls behind the large dominant mirror.

ANDREW - Second spirit is a female, one of the three women who made contact with us in earlier vigils this evening.

(** At this point, Jules cried out “We are being circled !” (by the three women). **)

ANDREW - The three women need help on the physical plane. They need energy from the living. They are not scared of passing over.

(** This information was followed by a very large flash of white light in the area of the main public entrance to the bar. It occurred behind Dan and myself (Dave) but was observed by Andrew and Jules who very soon after began to feel nauseous. **)

ANDREW - The name “Elizabeth” has a strong connection with these women (see the earlier Pool Table Area Walkabout).

ANDREW - Third spirit is a mature male called “William”. He owned this building circa. 17th century. He liked to smoke a pipe and wore a “Guy Faulkes” style of hat. He is aware of and is scared of the three witch women. He wants rid of them as they are damaging his pub.

ANDREW - The three witch women have returned. This venue was a brothel in their time. They readily admit to “entertaining” male customers when they were in the
physical plane.

(** Initial research : The pub was once run by two sisters, one of whom died under mysterious circumstances. The venue was documented as being a brothel during their time there. **)
(** Further contact with these three women took on a more sinister turn as their true temperament began to show through in their responses, transcribed below. **)

ANDREW - People went “missing” regularly when the three women were “entertaining” here. Travellers passing through were the easiest as no one would miss them for a very long time, if ever. Done for financial gain mainly. The three women had a hand in this venture and they enjoyed it.

ANDREW - There is a tunnel that connects this venue with The Red Lion Coaching Inn and inside it are bodies of some of these people. There is a male body in the
chimney of the Upper Function Room (see first spirit, above) and the body of their little girl (see earlier Pool Table Area Walkabout) is located in the wall of the top flat’s attic staircase. They are Satanists and are proud of it. They have etched satanic symbols including spiral-type shapes (see earlier Glass Divination in the Upper Function
Room) throughout the building, but mainly in the area now occupied by the front bar area public toilets.

(** Upon hearing this, Jim and I (Dave) decided to check the area for markings. None were found simply because there were too many modern day materials present, the original structure of the building being behind them and duly inaccessible to us. **)
(** Post research : From our last visit to this venue (ISPTWH280406), we know for a fact that there definitely is a bricked-up old doorway in the cellar that did form the entrance to a tunnel that ran 200 metres west to The Red Lion Coaching Inn and that from previous conversations, Jim has heard of a body being found in this tunnel during fairly recent renovation work. **)

Post Investigation.

The investigation officially concluded at 5 a.m. with most of the team leaving for home shortly afterwards. However, whilst Jules, Dan, Ian, Jim and myself (Dave) remained in the Upper Function Room talking about the night, we all clearly heard a door banging loudly somewhere downstairs in the bar area.
I (Dave) wanted to investigate but was told by Dan that the downstairs area had been fully locked up. The sound we had heard was the male toilet door in the front bar area opening and closing by person(s) unknown and was a regularly occurring phenomenon. I (Dave) as the group’s sceptic cannot explain how this could be happening as I had tried the door during the third vigil and had found it took a substantial pushing force to open said door due to a self-closing sprung mechanism situated on the door frame.

*note added by Jim - When the pub is locked up motion alarms cover the downstairs area so fakery is out of the question as i saw Dan set the alarms*

Spurious Names.

STUART - Upper Function Room : Surname’s “Bassett” and“Ellis”.

(** “Ellis” more than likely referring to highwayman Jack Ellis. **)

ANDREW - Base of Attic Stairs (Top Flat) : Surname“Williamson”.

STUART - Private First Floor Kitchen Area : “George Smith”.

(** Possibly the same George who was murdered by “Quartering”. **)

STUART - Front Bar Area : Surname “Erald”
