The Kings Head
Report by Jenny Semence (Crew)

This was our first ISP vigil. Night was mainly a spiritual investigation as we hadn't brought in strick scientific ideas at the time.

Vigil 1

Location

Times

Team

Equipment

The Cromwell Loft

21:30-22:00

2

Ion Detector - negative

Notes:

  • Strong link to childbirth in this room, getting labour pains. Someone important born here (important to building), connected with the name Edward and the year 1761.
  • Room was bigger back then? Connected with a lady in a mod cap and flowery dress that kept coming through the wall with the chimney rushing around. Refurbishment had disturbed the energy.
  • Connected with a man elsewhere in the building who had a clubfoot and clomped around the building. Medieval period, red hose trousers and brown sack ‘frock’.
  • Thought that the house was a family house at one point but also a travellers inn. Lots of visitors, comings and goings. Horses and coaches (John of Gaunt link to time period).
  • Saw a small bed ‘cot bed’ under the window where birthing had taken place. Linen coloured curtains, flowers in window. Very simple room.
  • Strange squeaking noise from somewhere in room – possibly TV aerial on roof….

Vigil 2

Location

Equipment

Our Lords Chamber

22:00-23:00

2

Ion Detector - negative

Notes: Noisy from pub below, unable to distinguish noises in room

  • Felt the room had been much refurbished and renovated, changed beyond recognition. Smaller rooms before.
  • Once a bedroom? Images of a huge mahogany bed near far end of room, deep mattress, almost 4-poster but without the top. Deeply carved, very extravagant.
  • Also a ‘deliberation room’. Once an office where judges discussed things with lawyers. No specific names with judges, many came through – circuit judges?
  • Lots of learned people in here, discussing life or death matters. Assizes link to this room and the one next to (Gatehouse?). Links to the 17 th Century.
  • Connected with a female energy who came up the stairs and into this room. Name begins with a B – “Barbara”. Dressed in a long black dress, heavy silk? Heavy, shiny material - makes swishing noise. Black headdress – hood or large hair-band? Dates from the time of Charles II.
  • Linked to someone that was hung from the staircase outside this room. Strange court case, he was man handled into the room protesting his innocence (judge or member sitting on panel was the guilty one). Was taken straight from the court to the staircase and hung. Links to a male “P” name.
  • Linked to a man (judge figure) standing and watching the courtyard from right hand side of large window, back to the difficult decisions link here.
  • Patsy picked up that the Civil War was very linked to the building.

Vigil 3

Location

Times

Team

Equipment

The Solar Room

23:30-00:30

2

Ion Detector - negative

Notes:

  • All investigators felt cold blasts of air across their bodies, all felt uncomfortable in the area. Feelings of dread.
  • One investigator nearly passes out from dizziness.
  • Linked to 2 main spirits in this room from different time periods. One who comes up to the door and looks in (look of disbelief? – servant type character), the other who walks across the room from window to window.

Date wise the man who walks the room is an early time period than the man at the door.

  • Links to this room being a meeting room, discussions, councils took place here with Oliver Cromwell presiding over the meeting (“Lord Protector”).
  • 2 members smell burning; part of this building was destroyed in a fire.
  • Death in the room a planned murder? Or an expected death.
  • Jenny gets a hanging sensation, something around her neck.
  • Patsy starts to get palpitations and the sensation of a heart attack. Consumption? Difficulties in breathing. Very strong sensations.
  • Links to poison
  • 2 members saw a shadow fall down from above the door.

Vigil 4

Location

Times

Team

Equipment

The Dining Room

02:00:03:00

2

Ion Detector - negative

Notes:

  • 2 different feelings about the room. One with religious overtones, the other as a family sitting room with laughter, happiness and children playing.
  • Religiously, the feeling of pews and a marriage ceremony. The name Thomas (Augustine) was picked up on.
  • Patsy thought this was a newer room than the previous ones we had been in 18 th century?
  • Linked with a spirit in the far right corner, moved quickly around, smells of highly polished leather wafting around. He was an infrequent spirit but people knew when they had seen him. Always busy and had a strong link with that corner for some reason. The name of Francis Rothschild came through (late Victorian period). He was a charming man, gentlemanly, almost aristocratic.
  • Links to an emblem that was a Pomegranate (also linked to King Henry VIII).
  • Very relaxing room, easy to fall asleep in!

Vigil 5

Location

Times

Team

Equipment

The Cromwell Room

03:35-04:35

1+2

Ion Detector – negative checking other equipment

Notes: 2 teams together

  • Several team members reported being touched on the head/hair, arms and legs.
  • Ben reported odd sensations of something crawling on his stomach.
  • Connected with “Mary” – a lady that died because of an accidental hanging. Unintentional, didn’t meant to do it, was more a cry for help. Baby involved, scandal.
  • Also connected with Edward who was a blacksmith but made items such as the rims for wheels rather than shod horses. “Mary” and “Edward” were connected as lovers but Edward was married elsewhere. Also connections with “Bess”. Maybe linked to the Edward that was picked up on in the Loft area directly above this room.
  • Linked with James who was also involved with these 3 people. Not a particularly nice energy, hissed a lot.
  • Shadows/movement seem in corridor to volunteers flats.
  • Taps, bangs and shuffling heard in corridor.
  • Many orbs/lights/shadows seen on adjoining Solar Room wall and next to the bed.
  • Video camera in hallway turns off, new batteries needed.

Rescue Work

Location

Name of Spirit

Notes

The Cromwell Room

Mary

See vigil notes. Mary sent to light, collected by Edward. Stayed because she liked Ben? thanked him when leaving, apologised. Very happy to go.

The Cromwell Room

James

See vigil notes. James sent to light, collected by his mother – didn’t want to go to the light because he thought his father was there, Mother confirmed he had gone to the dark. Big father figure block. Left with mother but not too happy, hissing all the way, tried to send attachment back to kitchen area, Lindy cut the cord.

Our Lord’s Chamber

Barbara

See vigil notes. Barbara sent to light, collected by a Gardener from the estate (father figure but not actually biological father). She didn’t move into the light because she didn’t know that’s what she was meant to do, was very young when she started as a maid, kept herself to herself. Quiet, solitary, lonely.

Staircase

Peter

Links to man picked up on in Our Lord’s Chamber/Gatehouse. Tried and murdered for something he didn’t do. Angry, upset, couldn’t understand ‘why’. Peter’s brother Billy came to help him into the light.

Dining Room

Albert

Albert’s wife (sounded like a variation of Elizabeth – Elsbeth?) and his 3 children came to collect him. Didn’t leave because he didn’t know if he had to put things right before he ‘moved on’.
